Using Technology

For my Preliminary task and my final radio making I recorded all of my voices using a shure SM58 Microphone with a pop guard. I often recorded a number of takes to give me more to work with when it came to editing, but also, so that I had a range of representations

During the recording of all my voices I carefully labeled each file to make it eaiser to access when it cam to editing the whole thing and when I need it. I created seperate folders for different things like for voices and sound effects.

Using the audio editing software Adobe Audition 1.5, I was able to cut out any mistakes from the voices that I recorded and removing all the gasps and unnecessary thing. I was able to cut elements from one take and mix them with sentences from other takes.

The multi-track feature on the editing software meant that I was able to layer a number of separate audio tracks and mix them in such away that music, sound effects and dialogue could be heard at the same time and appear to the listener to be blended seamlessly. The multi-track feature was particularly useful during the creation of my jingles, my advertisements and the outside broadcast's during my news bulletin, where I often needed to layer at least three audio tracks.

Audience

My show is aimed people who like listening to the latest hits  reflects thee kind of music they would like to listen to a station like mine. In terms of gender, my questionnaire indicates there are men and women who listen to my kind of station. regarding age, I would be targeting teenagers and young adults, even though older people might listen, my questionnaire indicates that the older generation wouldn't really listen to the station and they would not be interested in  nearing the latest hits instead they might listen to classical music.

I also considered my audience when is constructed my adverts - the drink driving advert and the insurance. which with the drink driving is a massive problem with the young drivers so it draws there attention to the advert.

The insurance is hard for a new driver to get because there insurance companies are charging lots of money which most people can't afford which is apporpriate for my station.

Representation

When it came to representation I built upon the research I had done when listening to the different representations shown in show presenters, news presenter, voxpops, characters in adverts and correspondents. As I wrote the scrip i had a clear way i wanted my characters to express it and how their voice should be. so when I would record it I would know who should do what part.

Jon voice was very catchy and his voice was deep which would draw the attention of the audience. whilst Alex sounded more serious and authoritative, yet reassuring so I chose him to be my news presenter

I wanted someone friendly and young to be my presenter so I chose Niall

I needed an older women to be one of the residents so I chose Karen one of the administrators in my college who would be the best person to pick.

It wasn't enough to simply chose the right actor, in order to get the representations that I wanted I had to direct my actor whilst recording, often re-record individuals a number of times before I was satisfied. In same instances I had the same actors playing the different roles.

Using the Conventions of Real Media Products 3

The final research and planning I did into real radio shows related to genre. My preliminary task was from a sports genre which I constructed to learn the ways to construct a radio station which for my main task I maid a station like Capital and LBC together

I listened in more detail to Capital Radio to get a better knowledge on how genre is represented on the station. I notes down the style of music used in the jingles to introduce the show, and listened to the types of adverts to see how they relate to their target audience. This research informed the first draft of my script.

Using the Conventions of Real Media Products 2

Other conventions of radio I included were outside broadcasts and sound bites during the news bulletin alongside adverts and music which targeted my targeted audience. when I listened to existing radio stations I notices they had many jingles for different segments of the show. I hear jingles for the show and for the station it's self

Using Conventions of Real Media Products 1

A big deal of research and planning I constructed for my radio was I focused on finding out the conventions of radio, so that I could create my own station with the same conventions as real radio station. Each element that was in my script on something I heard or researched from the ways that my jingles were constructed to the running order of my show. In my research I wrote out a real piece script to show how to construct my script and to layout my news bulletins. I looked at LBC.

The first thing I did after completing my preliminary task was listen to a range of radio station, from different Genres and different times of day. I wanted to find out whether different radio stations shares conventions regardless of genre so I listened to LBC, BBC Radio 1, Capital and Absolute Radio, noting what was similar

I found out they were a lot of similarities in terms of conventions, particularly when it came to the presentation of the news even though they are all completely different stations and different audiences.

Each news bulletin contains al least three of four stories, which features outside broadcasts, sound bites and voxpops.

Each news bulletin I listened to begun with news music, that often wasn't in the same beat as the rest of the station. Which I did the same
